Russia’s foreign minister refused to listen to anyone else speak at a UN Security Council meeting about the atrocities committed in Ukraine. Sergei Lavrov tried to blame Ukraine for the Kremlin invasion, saying “radical forces” and “neo-Nazis” had been in power since 2014 “as a result of an armed coup with the direct support of Western countries”. Speaking at a special meeting of the Security Council at the level of foreign ministers, he also accused Kyiv of threatening his country’s security and “brazenly trampling” on the rights of Russians....

Retired Supreme Court Justice Stephen Breyer warns his colleagues not to “write too rigidly” in their opinions, saying such decisions could “bite you in the back” in an ever-changing world. In a wide-ranging interview with CNN’s Chris Wallace on “Who’s Talking to Chris Wallace,” which debuted Friday on HBOMax and aired Sunday night on CNN, Breyer also complained about his position in his minority liberal bloc court during his final year on the bench....

Shortly after 9:30 a.m., Hamilton police said they were called to Sir Allan MacNab High School to investigate an alleged assault. Const. Krista-Lee Ernst told CTV News Toronto that there was a “fight” between two students. As a result of the investigation, police arrested a 16-year-old boy and a 17-year-old girl for “first-degree assault.” “Several other incidents occurred and a 16-year-old was arrested for threats and a 36-year-old was arrested for disorderly conduct,” the news release states....

An open letter to Brandon Lewis, the justice minister, and the Sentencing Council for England and Wales warns that pregnant women in prison suffer severe stress and highlights evidence to suggest they are more likely to give birth to stillbirths. Signatories include the Royal College of Midwives and Liberty. The letter states: “Research into the experiences of pregnant women in English prisons found that [they] they could not access basic amenities, adequate nutrition or clean air and that the fear of possible separation from their baby or the shame of becoming an incarcerated mother was debilitating....

Northumberland Hills Hospital (NHH) is dealing with another spike in COVID-19 cases after recently resuming public visits to Medical/Surgical Unit 2A following an outbreak. After consultation with Haliburton, Kawartha, Pine Ridge District Prevention and Control (IPAC) Health Unit leaders, staff and members of the hospital’s Patient and Family Advisory Council, NHH made the difficult decision to temporarily stop the visit at NHH’s Rehabilitation Unit due to a new outbreak of COVID-19 cases....

In the unlikely event that the Federal Reserve raises its key interest rate by 1%, it would certainly push gold lower. According to MarketWatch, “economists at brokerage Nomura Securities … became the first on Wall Street to forecast a full percentage point hike in the Fed’s short-term benchmark interest rate.” However, if the Fed raises interest rates by 75 basis points as expected, market participants could see some short-term covering amid a relief rally....
