Health
Kings County Memorial Hospital’s emergency department will close at 2 p.m. Saturday. This is due to lack of staff.
Schools
The Public Schools Branch said Thursday night that it plans to open schools as usual on Friday in both the French and English school systems. But he added: “If Fiona decides to arrive early or there is a concern for the safety of students that would require an early dismissal, we will make a further announcement tomorrow. All announcements will be sent to parents via the SchoolMessenger system, broadcast on local radio stations and posted on our social media channels.”
Travel and transportation
Strong winds Friday afternoon through Sunday morning may affect travel over the Confederation Bridge. Drivers are advised to check for bridge restrictions before making travel plans. Northumberland Ferries has canceled all services to Wood Islands-Caribou on Saturday, as well as the 5 and 7 p.m. from Wood Islands and the 5:15 and 6:30 p.m. from Caribou on Friday. Maritime Bus will not operate on Saturday, having canceled services on all of its routes due to the expected storm. Scheduled departures are expected to resume as normal on Sunday.
Government
Access PEI Charlottetown will not open this Saturday morning as scheduled. The office had started opening from 9am to midday on Saturdays for driving license renewals and changes, as well as vehicle renewals and transfers and Class 5 and 7 appointment bookings. All public libraries on the island will be closed on Saturday as well.
Community
Several festivals and major events planned for the weekend have been cancelled.
