The lawsuit contains more than 200 allegations of fraud, “which of course! Fraud is who he is,” Kimmel said. “Accusing Donald Trump of fraud is like charging Lizzo with juice. It’s the essence of it.” Kimmel also touched on rumors that Trump is upset with Florida Gov. Ron DeSandis for stealing his idea to trick asylum seekers into getting on a plane to Martha’s Vineyard. On Wednesday, Miles Taylor, the former chief of staff at the Department of Homeland Security, told CNN that Trump had the same idea. According to Taylor, Trump directed the department to round up immigrants, root out “murderers” and “rapists” and bus them to Democratic-run cities. “That was his plan. He wanted to send rapists to Detroit and Seattle and Chicago and Boston. That’s what our president wanted to do,” Kimmel said. “And they complain that Joe Biden is divisive. There seems to be no bottom to it – every time you think you’ve heard the craziest, angriest, most horrible thing, something worse comes out. “By the way,” he added, “if Trump wants to send a rapist somewhere, he can just get on the bus himself.”
Seth Meyers
Seth Myers also delved into the new lawsuit filed against Trump by the New York state attorney general’s office, which is asking a judge to order the Trump Organization to return $250 million in defrauded assets. “Two hundred and fifty million dollars! To pay that she should probably sell Mar-a-Lago and move in with Rudy,” Seth Meyers joked on Late Night. “I doubt Trump can afford to give away more than $250 million,” he added. “Something tells me his supporters are going to get a bunch of frantic emails saying ‘President Trump needs your help to prove the election was stolen, click here to donate $1, $5 or $250 million.’ Trump also faces multiple criminal investigations into the Jan. 6 riot and the theft of classified documents he kept in his Mar-a-Lago basement. “Now, there’s no way to know if Trump broke the law, except that he certainly did and it’s crazy that we have to be entertained that he didn’t,” Meyers said. “Nobody loses a job and gets whatever you want on your way out the door, especially if you work for the government.”
Stephen Colbert
On the Late Show, Stephen Colbert also addressed the allegations against Trump and his family. According to the lawsuit, Trump would fraudulently inflate the value of his properties in order to use them as collateral for huge loans. “And when it comes to fudging the numbers, Letitia James is not,” Colbert said. “He’s got the receipts, over 200 of them,” including claims by Trump’s company that a dozen rental apartments were worth more than $49.5 million when they were actually assessed at a total of $750,000. “That’s 65 times less money. And no surprise — the president is known for bulging assets,” Colbert joked over a photo of Trump in tennis shorts. “I guess this press conference drove the ex-preza over the edge, because the one thing he hates more than anything else is people hearing that he’s not as rich as he claims to be,” he added. Mar-a-Lago, for example, is valued at $75 million, but Trump claimed it was worth $739 million. “Well, of course it’s worth less now! The FBI just removed all the documents that could be sold the most,” Colbert said. James asked a judge to revoke the Trump Organization’s business certificate, bar family members from serving as officers of any state business and impose a five-year ban on the family from obtaining real estate or business loans from any company in New York.
Trevor Noah
On the Daily Show, Trevor Noah opened up with James’ final lines from the press conference: “Claiming to have money you don’t have is not the art of the deal. It’s the art of stealing.” “Oh, Donald Trump is in trouble now, because when a prosecutor uses a rhyme, you’re going to get time,” Noah said. “I’m not going to lie, I’m not optimistic,” he continued. “But if half of what Trump says is true, Trump is an even bigger crook than we all thought.” “These are not small amounts,” Noah continued, pointing to the discrepancy between Trump’s 11,000-square-foot apartment that he claimed was 30,000 square feet. “Which is a lie. So this man will be the first person to face legal trouble for claiming that his apartment is a grower and not a shower. “It would be so funny if that’s what brings Trump down,” he added. “Can you imagine? He’s trying to overthrow the government, but he’s caught because he lied about having a washer-dryer in the unit.”
