Khayri died after being attacked near North Huddersfield Trust School shortly before 3pm on Wednesday 21 September.
A 16-year-old boy was arrested on suspicion of murder and the school remained closed on Thursday for all but those students who needed support after the incident.
Tributes have been paid at the scene, in Woodhouse Hill Road, as residents spoke of their shock.
A crowdfunding page was set up in his memory by Khayri’s girlfriend, Shyana James, who laid flowers at the scene.
Writing on the Go Fund Me website, he said: “Like everyone, no such wonderful boy lost his life yesterday, he was only 15 [and] lived a good life.”
Speaking to ITV News at the scene, Shyana’s mother Sherrin said: “It’s just heartbreaking. He was at my house every day. He was such a good boy and he and his girlfriend adored each other. They were inseparable, they were each other all the time.”
He said he had no idea why he was attacked. “He was such a quiet boy,” she said.

Khayri was taken to hospital after the incident on Wednesday afternoon, but died a short time later.
A boy was arrested early Thursday morning.
Classmates Inaaya Hussain and Sanaa Daji attended the stage to pay their respects.
Inaaya said: “I knew him from primary school. He was young and he left too soon. It’s shaken us up. We spoke to him yesterday and it’s shocking how things can change in seconds.”
Sanaa added: “He will be sorely missed.”
A growing pile of flowers was left at the scene Thursday. One message read: “Another young life ended too soon after some horrible nonsense. Heartfelt condolences to the young boy’s mother and family.”
Earlier, the headteacher said in a statement to parents: “This is really shocking news for our pupils, your children and our staff. We will provide specialist support to anyone in our community who we feel could benefit.”
West Yorkshire Police said the incident was being treated as a targeted attack.
Ch Supt James Griffiths, district commander of Kirklees Police, said: “We fully understand the concern that Wednesday’s murder has caused in the communities and I want to reassure residents that everything possible is being done to investigate what happened.
“Officers are carrying out reassurance patrols in the local area… and I can promise that all necessary resources from across the force are being used in this investigation.”
