Stiles was first elected in her seat of Davenport in June 2018, winning it from the Ontario Liberals. He was also previously elected as a trustee of the Toronto District School Board. During her farewell speech, Horwath, who led the party from 2009 to 2022, said she was “stronger and more ready to govern than ever”. Former Ontario Liberal leader Stephen Del Duca resigned the same night.

Leadership candidates for the Ontario NDP, currently led by interim leader Peter Tabuns, have until December to register for the contest. “The core principles of the contest include generating enthusiasm for the Ontario NDP, its ideas and principles. to be positive, inclusive and accessible,” says the party’s website.
