According to the South Simcoe Police Service, 21-year-old Tania Pardazi Moghaddam of Richmond Hill died on August 27 after being seriously injured in a jump from an airplane in the area of 10 Sideroad and Line 4.
Skydive Toronto Inc. issued a statement on Monday after the fatal accident, confirming that the incident involved one of their students.
The company said in a statement last month that Pardazi Moghaddam “released a rapidly rotating main parachute at low altitude without the time or altitude required to inflate the reserve parachute”.
Police said Pardazi Moghaddam was taken to a local hospital but died from her injuries.
Friends of Pardazi Moghaddam previously told CTV News Toronto that she died while completing her first solo dive course, and it was her first time jumping alone. According to the company, the course requires its students to complete a day of ground school before they can jump on their own.
A childhood friend of Pardazi Moghaddam, Melody Ozgoli, remembers Pardazi Moghaddam for her adventurous spirit.
“Her life was very boring and she was always trying to do something adventurous,” he said.
Kimia Sepanlou, another close friend of hers, said Pardazi Moghaddam was “one of the bravest girls”.
“Whenever we saw her, we knew we were in for an adventure because she didn’t like to let herself or those closest to her get bored,” he said. “Everyone who met her thought the world of her.”
Anyone with information or video of the crash is asked to contact Detective Const. Dan Raymond at 705-436-2141, ext. 1027, or [email protected] Anonymous tips can also be submitted through Crime Stoppers.
