The BC police patrol has been called after a police vehicle collided with a pedestrian earlier this week in Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside. The Independent Investigations Bureau (IIOBC) opened the investigation on September 20 after a Vancouver Police Department (VPD) vehicle collided with a pedestrian around 3:20 am. earlier the same day. The police vehicle was traveling eastbound in the 100-block of East Hastings Street, according to a media release. “The man was taken to hospital with serious injuries,” the IIOBC reports. There is no indication of what kind of vehicle it was or whether the lights and sirens were on. In an email to Vancouver Is Awesome, VPD notes the man was standing in the street. “We believe this investigation will shed light on the factors that led to the collision, including why the pedestrian was standing still in the middle of the road, why the officers did not see the person, the speed of the police vehicle and other contributing factors.” , said the email from the VPD. Anyone who witnessed the incident or has video of what happened is asked to contact the IIOBC at 1-855-446-8477 or through their website.
