The House Select Committee investigating Jan. 6, 2021, has reached an agreement with Ginny Thomas, the conservative activist and wife of Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas, who will be interviewed by the committee in the coming weeks, according to a source close to commission. .

Ginni Thomas’ attorney, Mark Paoletta, confirmed the voluntary interview in a statement, saying, “As she has said from the beginning, Ms. Thomas is willing to answer the Commission’s questions to clear up any misconceptions about her work on the 2020 elections. He is looking forward to this opportunity.”

Members of the panel have long said they were interested in speaking with Thomas, particularly after CNN first reported on text messages he exchanged with then-White House chief of staff Mark Meadows before Jan. 6 about the reversal. of the elections.

But in the months after those messages surfaced, there was no indication that forcing her to testify was a top priority for the committee, despite subsequent evidence that Thomas also encouraged lawmakers in Arizona and Wisconsin to overturn Joe’s legitimate election victory. Biden.

In June, Paoletta said in a letter to the committee that he did not “believe there is currently a sufficient basis to speak with” Thomas.

“I am asking the Committee to provide a better justification as to why Ms. Thomas’s testimony is relevant to the Committee’s legislative purpose,” he wrote in the letter obtained by CNN.

The attorney’s response followed a June 16 letter from the commission asking Thomas to meet with the commission in July and provide documents that could be relevant to the investigation.

The committee has email correspondence between Thomas and former President Donald Trump’s campaign lawyer, John Eastman, as well as text messages between her and Meadows. The texts show Thomas urging Meadows to continue the fight to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election.

Thomas’ attorney said in the June letter his client was “willing to come forward” and “willing to clear her name,” but that without more information from the commission, he feared she was being asked to come forward “to continue the baseless harassment has been submitted since January 6.”

“There is no story to reveal here,” he said in the letter.
