Police said a man was arrested around 1:30 a.m. Tuesday after an unauthorized vehicle was stopped on Wellington Street at O’Connor Street. In a tweet, police said the man was under a court order not to return to the area in connection with the seizure of the Freedom Convoy in February. Police have not identified the man or said whether charges have been filed, but said he was being held for show purposes. Drivers who have previously stopped on the closed section of Wellington Street face fines. Earlier this summer, a man was arrested and charged after slamming a gate on Wellington Street. Ottawa police have jurisdiction over Wellington Street in front of the Parliament buildings, although talks with the federal government have continued since the street was closed after the protesters were cleared. Tuesday marked the first day of the autumn sitting of Parliament as MPs returned to the House of Commons. Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is in New York, where he is attending the 77th session of the UN General Assembly.

After stopping the vehicle, police discovered the driver had a court order to stay out of the area in connection with the February illegal protest. The driver was detained for demonstration purposes. (2/2) — Ottawa Police (@OttawaPolice) September 20, 2022
