Support in the form of a discount will be automatically applied to gas and electricity bills between 1 October and 31 March. The supported wholesale prices are expected to be £211 per MWh for electricity and £75 per MWh for natural gas. First Minister Liz Truss said: “As we do for consumers, our new system will keep their energy bills lower from October, providing certainty and peace of mind.” Mr Rees-Mogg added: “The help we already provide will save money on families’ bills and the Government’s plans for businesses, charities and public sector organizations will give them the same level of support. “This, together with the steps we are taking to boost the amount of domestic energy we produce to improve both energy security and supply, will increase growth, protect jobs and support families with the cost of living them this winter”.
