Saskatoon Police announced that 27-year-old Robert “Bobby” James Thomas was arrested at a home in Prince George, BC on Tuesday morning and will be transported to Saskatoon for a court appearance later this week. “We will never hug Megan again. We will never laugh with Megan again. We will never see her beautiful smile again. And as he promised me on Father’s Day, we will never play again. Those are just some of the reasons for things like our rides and Lindsey’s Journey,” said Brian. On Sunday, the Gallagher family hosted a walk in Saskatoon to raise awareness of the ongoing search for Megan, 30, who was last seen on September 20, 2020.

Brian remarked on the fact that the announcement came exactly two years since his daughter was last seen, noting that 720 days have passed. “Megan was a very special soul,” he said. She was last seen alive at a Circle K convenience store, captured on store surveillance video, around 6 a.m. on September 20, 2020. Before that, he was last seen leaving a friend’s house in Lloyd Crescent on September 19, 2020. Earlier this year, four people were charged with desecration of human remains — or trespassing on a human body, buried or not — in connection with her disappearance. John Wayne Sanderson, 44, Ernest Vernon Whitehead, 41, Jessica Faye Badger (Sutherland) 42, and Roderick William Sutherland, 44, were charged.

Police say Thomas is the fifth person arrested in connection with Gallagher’s alleged death, but more arrests are expected as the investigation continues. To this day, her remains have not been located. “I also want to reassure Megan’s family and the general public that we will continue to do everything we can to locate Megan and find those responsible for her death,” Saskatoon Deputy Police Chief Randy Husman said. at Tuesday’s press conference. He said police will begin searching a section of the South Saskatchewan River that investigators have identified as an area of interest. “This investigation is far from over. There are a lot of moving parts,” he said. Staff Sergeant Grant Obst of the major crime division said Thomas is known to police and has a “significant” connection to Saskatoon.

“Don’t let British Columbia (place) be a red herring. He has ties to Saskatoon,” Obst said, adding that he would leave the question of whether Megan and Thomas knew each other for trial. Obst said he couldn’t put his finger on a single piece of the puzzle that led to the arrest, but pieces of the puzzle had to come together before police got to where they are now. He thanked the Gallagher family for their involvement during the investigation, saying the police had a “respectful and cordial” relationship with them. “Without them, I’m not entirely sure we’d be where we are today,” Obst said. Brian said he and his wife have talked about how someone could keep such a secret for two years and how they live with themselves.

“The pain he has caused so many of us is hard to describe. Other missing persons families suffer the same, similar or much worse reality. This just has to stop. Breaking the silence works and has been the theme since we started… working with SPS, that the silence is killing us…” he said. “Breaking the silence builds communities. Walking together works. Building relationships with the Saskatoon Police Service and other police agencies is working.” — With StarPhoenix files by Bre McAdam [email protected] The news seems to be flying at us faster and faster.
