Ottawa’s test positivity rises again. No new weekend deaths in Ottawa. There are now 33 cases of COVID-19 in the capital.

Wastewater The average weekly level of coronavirus in Ottawa’s wastewater is rising slowly this month. As of Sept. 15, levels were more than three times higher than a year ago. Researchers who measured and shared the amount of the novel coronavirus in Ottawa’s sewage found the weekly average peaked most recently on July 10. The most recent data is as of September 15. (613covid.ca) Hospitals Thirty Ottawa residents have been admitted to a city hospital with COVID-19, according to the latest OPH update. This is slightly higher than the last update. Three patients are hospitalized in the intensive care unit. The above hospitalization figures do not include all patients. For example, they leave out patients admitted for other reasons who later test positive for COVID-19, those admitted for prolonged complications of COVID-19, and those transferred from other health facilities. The number including these types of patients decreased from mid-July to the end of August and increased slightly in September. Tests, outbreaks and outbreaks Testing strategies changed with the Omicron variant, meaning many cases of COVID-19 are not reflected in the current numbers. Public health officials now monitor and report cases only in healthcare settings. Ottawa’s test positivity rate has risen to just over 12 percent. There are currently 33 active cases of COVID in Ottawa, up from 25 at last update. OPH reported 219 additional cases and no new deaths. Vaccines According to the most recent weekly update, 93 per cent of Ottawa residents aged five and over had at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, 90 per cent had at least two and 60 per cent at least three. Twenty-three per cent of Ottawans aged 12 and over had at least four. Children 12 to 17 are only eligible if they are significantly immunocompromised. About 7,500 residents under the age of five have received the first dose, which is about 16 per cent of Ottawa’s population of that age. That’s almost 300 more doses in seven days.

Throughout the region

Spreading As of the most recent update, sewage levels are stable or falling in the Kingston area. They are stable in Smiths Falls and have dropped in Brockville and Kemptville. Data from other regions is out of date or unavailable. The Eastern Ontario Health Unit’s COVID test positivity has increased again. It was at 9% on September 9 and at 17.5% on Tuesday. Hospitalization and deaths The health authority of Western Quebec, CISSSO, reports in its weekly update 77 hospitalizations due to COVID. One of these patients is in intensive care. Eastern Ontario communities outside of Ottawa are reporting about 35 hospitalizations with COVID-19. Four of these patients are in the intensive care unit. This count does not include Hastings Prince Edward Public Health (HPE), which has a different counting method. HPE reports 33 hospitalizations with four patients in intensive care. Vaccines Across eastern Ontario, between 81 and 92 per cent of residents five years of age and older have received at least two doses of the vaccine, and between 52 and 64 per cent of those residents have had at least three.
