The council sent a letter home to parents last week. “This term, respiratory disease, I’ve gotten a lot of phone calls from parents saying, ‘What is this? Is this COVID? Do you know if it’s COVID?’ board president Trisha Estabrooks said. “This is the language AHS asked us to use in the letter. We are not health workers. This is who we are still navigating this pandemic. That’s the language of AHS and that’s the language we have to use.” Schools no longer receive daily updates from Alberta Health Services on infection rates. Estabrooks encourages parents to notify schools of positive cases and to keep children home when they are sick. “If your child is sick, stay home. It’s just not acceptable anymore and hasn’t been for a few years now to send your child to school if they’re sick.” EPSB has approximately 109,000 students.
