‘I really don’t know what I’m going to do’: ITV News Chloe Keedy says people are worried the payment won’t affect rising costs Around six million people will receive a one-off payment of £150 towards disability living costs from Tuesday. Those who qualify for Disability Allowance will be paid automatically from 20 September. The vast majority of beneficiaries are expected to receive their lump sum payment by early October, the government said. People with disabilities often face higher associated costs, such as care and mobility needs. Those who may be eligible for the payment include people receiving Disability Living Allowance, Personal Independence Payment, Attendance Allowance, Scottish Disability Allowances (Adult Disability Payment and Child Disability Allowance), Armed Forces Independence Payment, Continuing Attendance Allowance or War Pension mobility supplement. The payments are part of a support package for households as costs soar. More than eight million eligible households receiving means-tested benefits received the first of two automatic cost-of-living payments of £326 from 14 July. The second means-based payment of £324 will be issued later this year. From 1 October 2022, a new energy price guarantee will mean the average household will pay no more than £2,500 a year on their energy bill for the next two years. News of the new guarantee was immediately overshadowed by the Queen’s death, leaving open some questions about support. Further details on measures to help households and businesses are expected this week. People are also being asked to be alert to scammers targeting those expecting cost of living payments. Payments will be automatic, so people should watch out for messages and emails from scammers asking for their personal details. The Queen’s remarkable life was recalled in our latest episode of What You Need To Know.
