This year F1 will host 22 races, but with new meetings being added as the sport grows in popularity around the world, it will look to deliver the most extensive season in the sport’s history in 2023. The number of races will push F1 team personnel to the limit. July alone will feature four doubleheader games, with four more pairs of back-to-back games to follow. In August, Red Bull team principal Christian Horner described 24 races as “right at the limit” of what could be asked of teams. F1 CEO Stefano Domenicali also said this year that he believed the number was as high as the sport should go. “Around 24 grands prix, 23, 24 at the most,” he said. “I don’t want to discuss more than that number because then we have the problem of devaluation [events].” The season will begin in Bahrain on March 5 and conclude in Abu Dhabi on November 26, with the British GP taking place on July 9. New meetings in Las Vegas and Qatar are confirmed as is the Monaco GP, whose future was thought to be under threat, on May 28 as part of the season’s only triple after the Emilia Romagna GP and before the Spanish GP. F1 also confirmed a new contract with Monaco that will run until 2025. Quick guide

The USA will host three games, in Austin, Miami and Las Vegas, with the latter forming a doubleheader with the season finale in Abu Dhabi. As expected, the proposed meeting in South Africa was not included, but China returned with a date scheduled for April 16. This meeting is still subject to the Covid restrictions imposed on the country, however, and its place early in the schedule suggests that if it is cancelled, it could be replaced later in the year. The Belgian GP at Spa, also thought to be under threat, has retained its July 30 slot, but as expected the French GP no longer features. There is also no conflict with the 24 Hours of Le Mans on June 10-11 between the Spanish and Canadian GPs. Quick guide

Thanks for your response. Despite strong opposition and criticism from human rights groups and some drivers, the Saudi GP remains on the calendar. Domenicali welcomed the record-breaking programme. “Formula 1 has unprecedented demand to host races and it is important to get the balance right for the whole sport,” he said. “We are very pleased with the strong momentum that Formula 1 continues to experience.”
