The iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max have a serious camera problem, but Apple is working on a … [+] fix it. Getty ImagesMORE FROM FORBES Google Unveils Powerful New Google Photos Features – Out Now By Paul Monckton Soon after the launch, iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max users started reporting a dramatic camera-related problem when using popular apps like TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, and Snapchat. When using an affected app, attempting to open the rear camera results in an uncontrollable ‘shake’ of the camera lens, accompanied by a disturbing ‘rattling noise’. The bug appears to be the result of an incompatibility with the phone’s new 48-megapixel camera causing damage to the optical image stabilization (OIS) system of the main lens. The OIS system is designed to counteract unwanted camera shake through precise lens movements, but unfortunately, it seems to do the exact opposite when this bug applies. A Tweet from content creator Luke Miani shows the bug in effect with the rattling lens clearly audible. Speaking to Bloomberg, Apple confirmed the issue and promised that a fix would be available early next week. Fortunately, this indicates a fixable software problem rather than a deeper hardware problem, so owners shouldn’t be expected to have to return their iPhones for repair. However, as she reveals in a YouTube video, Miani’s phone eventually couldn’t focus anymore and was replaced at the Apple store. If you are currently affected by this issue, I would strongly recommend that you do not enable it on purpose, as it is not yet known if prolonged lens rattling can lead to permanent hardware damage, as it likely did with Miani’s phone. If you can’t get an instant exchange at an Apple Store, just hold on tight and wait for an update, either directly from Apple or from the individual social media apps you use. As a temporary workaround, you can take photos with Apple’s built-in camera app, which is not affected by the bug, and share images on social media from there. Follow @paul_monckton on Instagram
