Around 6 p.m. last night, Peel Police were called to the busy retailer in the Heartland Town Center near Mavis and Britannia streets for multiple reports of a stabbing. There, they found a woman “with obvious signs of trauma.” The victim, whose name and age have not been released at this time, died at the scene. A male suspect, who suffered minor injuries, was arrested and taken to a “local hospital for medical treatment,” said media officer Const. Philip Yake told reporters at the scene Monday night. No charges have yet been filed against the suspect. A store employee told CTV News the incident happened in the store’s garden center area. Peel police won’t say whether the victim and her attacker knew each other or what kind of relationship they may have had because “the investigation is still in its infancy.” They also did not comment on a motive, exactly how the suspect was injured or if he entered the store armed. However, police said they are not currently looking for any other suspects. “This is believed to be an isolated incident and public safety is not a concern,” Yake said. The Peel Police Homicide Bureau is now handling this investigation. Police are expected to release more details about the case sometime today. Anyone with information is asked to contact Peel Police at 905-453-3311 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS) or -with files from CP24’s Joshua Freeman
