Head coach Kyle Shanahan on Monday said on a conference call that he expects the young signal-caller to be around the team as much as possible after his injury. “I’m sure he’s going to be here the whole time and he’s going to rehab here and we haven’t even talked about it, but I’d be shocked if he wasn’t,” Shanahan said. “Well, right now, he just came out of surgery a while ago. I know we are all somewhat worried about him and making sure he is doing well mentally and physically. We’ll talk to him here soon. I know some guys have been over there to visit him already, but yeah, we’re not sure yet, but once he can get back here and start rehab, we’re going to want him to be a part of everything. In every meeting it could be, in every training it could be. I know he won’t be able to do all of that because of how much rehab he’ll need to do, but especially at these meetings, we don’t plan on Trey being away from us at all. Whenever he’s not tending to his ankle, we plan on him being with us.” While Lance still needs in-game reps, being able to be around the team, in meetings and possibly on the field to watch practice should at least allow him some progress as an NFL signal caller. The key beyond that will be Lance being able to deal with football during the offseason. Having him around the team will be good, but there will be additional mechanical things that he will need to continue working on in the offseason. As long as Lance is able to do that, his development shouldn’t be pushed back too much.
