According to investigators, a Dodge Ram truck was headed north on 36th Street SE just before 9:30 a.m. when he ran off the road at the intersection with 17th Avenue. The truck mounted the curb and scraped the wall of a business before hitting a bus shelter and a 42-year-old man. The pedestrian, who police say was waiting for a bus, was pronounced dead. The truck driver, a man in his 70s, was taken from the scene to Foothills Medical Center by ambulance. As of Monday morning, his condition was considered stable. Officers at the scene Sunday morning told CTV News the truck was traveling at a high rate of speed at the time of the crash and it was unclear if drugs or alcohol were involved. On Monday, CPS officials said “a medical incident suffered by the driver of the Dodge Ram is also being investigated as a possible factor in the crash.” Anyone who witnessed the crash or has dash cam footage of the truck before the crash is asked to contact the CPS non-emergency line at 403-266-1234 or submit anonymous tips to Crime Stoppers.
