Prince Harry found the song ‘God Save The King’ particularly difficult as it highlighted the reality of losing his grandmother, a body language expert said. The Duke of Sussex – the grandson of Queen Elizabeth II – was apparently “losing his emotions throughout the service” at Westminster Abbey. Author and body language expert Judy James said she often had a “sad expression” which “intensified” when she sang “God Save The King”. He told Metro.co.uk: “Changing the words from ‘God Save The Queen’ to King can cause strong emotions as the reality of the Queen’s death and the changes to come sink in. “The moment also appeared to be a struggle for Harry, who stood behind his father at the service as the line was sung during the hymn. “Harry was losing his battle with his emotions throughout the service, tearing up and often glaring at his brother with an expression of sadness on his face. “That look of sadness seemed to intensify during the song. His mouth almost stopped moving as he approached it and there was no real lip formation around the word ‘King’ as if he might still be in denial. “His eyebrows knitted and bruised and when his mouth closed the corners seemed to droop.” To view this video, please enable JavaScript and consider upgrading to a web browser that supports HTML5 video Prince Harry often appeared emotional at times during the state funeral (Image: Reuters) At one point during the service Harry was seen covering his eyes (Image: AFP via Getty Images) The duke did not wear military uniform to the funeral, despite serving in the army for 10 years and having been deployed twice to Afghanistan. He also did not join the rest of his family in greeting the Queen before the funeral. Harry lost the right to wear his ceremonial robes when he stepped down as a senior royal two years ago – alongside Prince Andrew, who was forced to step down following sexual assault allegations. Instead, he wore a traditional black suit for the funeral with his military medals as he walked alongside his brother Prince William, who was wearing his RAF No 1 uniform. The prince arrived for the funeral alongside his wife, Meghan Markle, and the pair looked serious as they were driven down The Mall in central London.

The Duchess of Sussex also appeared to struggle with her emotions and was pictured wiping away a tear after leaving the Abbey at the end of the service. Mirroring her sister-in-law Kate Middleton, Meghan wore a traditional all-black outfit complete with a wide-brimmed hat. She also wore a set of simple diamond and pearl earrings, which were gifted to her by the late monarch in 2018. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are believed to have been ‘uninvited’ from last night’s state reception on the eve of the Queen’s funeral. The gathering was said to be the largest of its kind in the post-war era and was attended by world leaders and royals from around the world.
