He blamed people posting videos and comments on social media for distorting the facts and stoking tensions. Sir Peter said: “I’ve seen a wide variety of social media that is very, very, very distorting now and some of it is just outright lying about what had happened between different communities.” He continued: “I have spoken to many community leaders and they are doing everything they can to bring Leicester back to normality because in Leicester, very good relations between people of different faiths are normal. “Me and them, while we’re confused by it, we’re also very disturbed by it. But I think we are all very confident that Leicester are resilient enough to be able to return to normal relations very soon.” Sir Peter also warned that people from other parts of the country, including Birmingham, were traveling to Leicester to join the disturbance.
