Update September 19, 2022: Apple has acknowledged this problem in a statement to Bloomberg. The company says a fix will be released sometime next week. If you are affected by this issue, do not allow your iPhone 14 Pro camera to vibrate/shake as it could damage the hardware.
iPhone 14 Pro camera issues in third-party apps
Concerned iPhone 14 Pro users have taken to Reddit and Twitter to share their experiences with these issues. On Reddit, one user explains: So I experience my camera shaking uncontrollably every time I open Snapchat or use the camera for Instagram. However, I have no issues when using the regular camera app. Another iPhone 14 Pro user says: I got my new iPhone 14 pro yesterday and I get intermittent ois camera shake (by shake I mean I can see and hear it shaking) on Snapchat. And another one: My iPhone 14 Pro just arrived and when I opened Snapchat the camera was very shaky and made a rather weird mechanical noise Other users have spoken out to say they’ve seen similar issues with Snapchat, Instagram and TikTok. A handful of videos showing this problem have also been shared on social media. In the videos, you can see the iPhone 14 Pro camera shaking in third-party apps, while the physical camera unit itself also makes some kind of noise. This video from TikTok below does a great job of showing the software issue alongside the iPhone 14 Pro’s camera module rattling. Posted by TikTok user Damian Munoz on Saturday: Currently, this issue appears to only affect the iPhone 14 Pro camera when used in a third-party app. Most of the complaints on social media mention that the problem occurs on social media apps like Snapchat, TikTok, and Instagram. Since this iPhone 14 Pro camera shake issue only affects the camera in third-party apps, it’s almost certainly a software bug of some sort. It’s possible that these third-party apps weren’t prepared for the iPhone 14 Pro’s camera changes. Specifically, it could be something related to optical image stabilization, hence the rattling sounds the camera unit itself makes. Currently, there is no workaround for this problem. Affected apps like Instagram, Snapchat, and TikTok will likely need to release updates to their respective apps to fix the issue. FTC: We use affiliate links that automatically earn you income. More.
